Early in December Sir F. Lugard sent for me

and told me that he was most anxious that Mr. Hutchison should at

once take charge of the Detective Staff, as the position was

serious and the Police short of officers and that he Sir

Frederick wanted me to take charge of the Import and Export Office

when Mr. Hutchison was away, and also to visit the various distilleries from time to time as I could arrange. Sir Frederick

told me that I should receive a bonus for this extra work which

same I carried out from December 14th. until April 4th.
